How to paint designs on your walls

If your walls are too simple, consider adding something to give more dynamism. No need to paint the entire wall of a single color, to give a new image. Learn a new technique of painting as painting with stencils or blocks of color and you can start to turn your walls into works of art.

Paint designs on your walls with stencils

  1. Paint the wall in a base color, usually a light neutral color. Think of this as the canvas on which you create your art. Wait for the paint to dry before putting the templates on the walls.
  2. Buy or make a set of templates. To create your own custom templates, young stars, flowers or other shapes on cardboard or Mylar.
  3. Paste slightly templates to the wall where you want to place the design. With a brush or brush templates, paint carefully through the holes in the template. Be careful and paint only the pieces you want to be seen.
  4. Slowly remove the templates and let the paint dry. Reuse the staff making sure to clean any paint on edges. Continue painting until the wall is complete.
  5. Fix any errors with a tiny brush and paint chips. If you are very artistic, paint freehand any extra area for a special touch.

Paint designs on your walls blocks

  1. Choose three paintings of similar colors, like three red or blue, and black or white to create modern colored blocks on your wall. You can paint a base color or leave it anyway because you’re going to cover. For a softer effect, choose neutral colors paintings.
  2. Draw blocks of various sizes, squares and rectangles, in a cardboard or paper. Make sure the blocks are large enough to be noticeable on the wall; 12 to 24 inches wide (30 to 60 centimeters) and do not make too many.
  3. Place the blocks on the ground to decide the best positioning. Move them until you find a pattern you like. Decide what colors will go in each block.
  4. Place each block in the wall, one at a time, starting with the upper corner and trace around with a pencil. Use a spirit level to make sure your lines are straight.
  5. Cover pencil lines using painters tape. Make sure all lines are straight on the wall.
  6. Paint the squares with different colors. Allow the paint to dry before slowly pull the tape. Let the color lines white or paint them with one of your new colors. Top lines on each side to maintain the straight edges and happen to avoid the blocks.
